How Olympians Keep Healthy
The Olympic Games are an intense event, for spectators and athletes alike. It’s heartbreaking to see an athlete suffer an injury that can eliminate them from a contest that they have spent years training for. An Olympian’s training schedule consist of hours upon hours of grueling physical training. So how do they avoid injuries despite exercising so hard? Well, behind every Olympian is a physical therapist. A lot of injury prevention is used in the years leading to an Olympic event. The key to injury prevention is flexibility, strength and technique. Every joint and muscle is kept at a balance in order to avoid injury. During the big competition, physical therapists are constantly working with the athletes and helping them get warmed up and prepared for their event. After the event, even if the athlete is not injured, they go through a recovery plan with their physical therapists. Physical therapists do whatever is necessary to keep their respective Olympians healthy and ready to compete.
